About us

What makes us different

Quality.
FloodSlicer is Australia's premier 3D rendering and animation company and a world leader in pre-built visualisations.

Experience.
Second to none. A multi-disciplinary team of professionals brings to every project a unique combination of architectural expertise, cutting-edge technology, and pioneering artistry that invests our visual style with depth and authenticity.

Precision.
Incorporating architecture, photography, 3D technology, cinematography, and multiple design disciplines, we prepare visual experiences of exceptional complexity - gorgeously detailed and meticulously realised.

Creative Vision

We hone our craft in the commercial sphere of architecture and development (clients ranging from government bodies and developers through to boutique architectural practices), in the process bringing a unique artistry to the world of real estate, and then bestowing high levels of technical sophistication and training to the artistic endeavors we then pursue. We have a history of collaboration, support and participation in the Arts Sector. We have collaborated and/or directed a number of architecture biennales (“Now and When”, Australian Pavilion Venice 2011, Venice Virtual Pavilion 2004 and 2006, Beijing Biennale 2010), festivals (Gertrude Street Projection Festival in Melbourne 2014, Expanded Architecture Festival in Sydney 2011) project and grant work with local artists and regular competition work with firms such as Lyons Architecture and Ashton Raggatt McDougall. As lead producers, judges, editors and creators, the “When” component of the 2010 Venice Biennale was the outcome of the dual experiment of collaborating with 17 different architectural teams (themselves collaborations), adding an editorial role whilst investigating the potentialities of stereoscopic representation. The “When” show has subsequently toured Beijing, Seoul, Gold Coast, Sydney, Ballarat and Perth alongside John Gollings’ “Now” component.

Daniel regularly lectures, tutors and sits on judging or discussion panels which involve architecture, design, film and art. These include RMIT, Melbourne University, Monash, QUT, 3RRR The Architects to name a few. Our work is regularly published in a range of publications from the weekly property sections of the paper, architectural magazines through to 3d visualisation industry based books and websites. Daniel is the subject of a case study of best case use of Chaos Group’s software that will be shown around the world. FloodSlicer have drawn staff from a wide range of educational and experiential backgrounds. From musicians to multimedia artists, industrial, graphic and interior designers, I.T. specialists, film directors, stylists and of course always the architects.

All our work is state-of-the-art. Every image, every animation we make is a technological step forward. With each new project, we create something that has never been possible before.

Scope & working process

FloodSlicer designs and project-manages. We ensure that all services are meaningfully enmeshed with each stage of the process. In this way, we produce an integrated and powerful articulation of your brief.

Through a series of consultations, we design an image schedule in response to your brief. These sessions isolate potential views of the site and confirm a selection of proposed still images.

Animation storyboarding generally begins with the writing of a concept document, which puts in place a narrative structure that showcases all major points contained in your project documentation. We then design a visual style to express the narrative - a construct of framing selections, camera movement, scene activity, atmospheric lighting, and editing rhythm.

When can we start?

We strongly recommend pencilling in a project as soon as you believe we may be involved.

Often there will be a lead time on projects. Prior to start-up, we also recommend preliminary discussions that:  i) further explore the brief,  ii) establish the material available to work with, and  iii) define the deliverables for your deadlines.

The turnaround on an animation can vary from as little as 2 weeks to 3 months - depending upon complexity of brief, availability of material, weather, and other variables. This can be finalised once we have a clear idea of your budget and project expectations. Still renders can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to produce - again, depending on photography, weather, availability of data, quantity etc.

With clear communication and planning, we are able to successfully produce a high quality product, prioritising the output to best suit the available timeframe and your deadline requirements.

Experience

We have a varied client base, both in terms of budget and geographic location. Our clients are located from Melbourne to Cardiff. Many projects are managed completely and successfully via email, phone and ftp. Others require face-to-face client and consultant contact. We tailor our working methods to suit your project requirements.

We have a long history working for government departments and a wide range of marketing, graphic design, and advertising agencies. From our groundbreaking work on Docklands and Federation Square, to the extensive animation work for The Victorian Transport Plan in 2008, FloodSlicer is proud to have built a reputation for delivering extraordinary results on time and on budget.
